WELCOME TO THE 65TH RUNNING OF THE
JOHN SMITH’S CUP
AT YORK RACECOURSE
13TH JULY 2024

A WARM WELCOME TO THE JOHN SMITH’S CUP 2024

I am delighted to welcome you all to the 65th running of the John Smith’s Cup at York Racecourse.

We are extremely proud of our Yorkshire roots, being based just along the road at Tadcaster Brewery where John Smith’s enjoys over 250 years of brewing heritage and where our ale is brewed to fulfil the 228 million pints enjoyed by our customers every year.

John Smith’s continues to go from strength-to-strength. It is the nation’s favourite ale and we celebrate a long association with horse racing, indeed, The John Smith’s Cup is the longest running sports sponsorship in the United Kingdom.

As ever it is an absolute pleasure to work with our friends at the beautiful York Racecourse.

Today we will have a fantastic turn out at what is one of the best sporting events in the country. So, it’s over to you now, I hope you bet wisely and enjoy a glass of beer responsibly, and that you have a wonderful day out at the John Smith’s Cup.

Fun fact about me, I am known as Charlie, and I let most people believe my name is Charlotte... but it’s actually Charmain – only my mum and the police call me Charmain...

If I was stuck on a desert island I would survive if I had my kids, some pickled onion monster munch and mascara.

Account Director North

I am an Account Director in the North region and have been with Heineken for 24 years.

I’m here with my wife Julie, and Jason Donovan was at our wedding… intrigued? Come and ask us!

If I was left on a desert island (obviously my first priority is to have Julie with me) but otherwise, I could survive on Sky TV, a never-ending Blade unit and a revolving dance floor. See you at Pop world!

Key Customer Manager

I am a Key Customer Manager and have been with Heineken for 4 weeks.

I am a qualified beer sommelier so as well as selling you beer, I can talk to you for hours, some might say bore you, about it. Come and test me!

Key Customer Manager

I am a Key Customer Manager and have been with Heineken for 12 years.

I love Loughborough Town Rugby and fun fact, I have a degree in aeronautical engineering!

Customer Development Director for Yorkshire and East Midlands

I am the Customer Development Director for Yorkshire and East Midlands and your host today. I’ve been at Heineken for 6 years now.

I once hosted the cast of American Pie at the FA Cup Final ...messy! How did I get involved in that? Come and ask me!

If I was left on a deserted island, I’d need a lifetime supply of beer, more castaways to spend time with and who bring Netflix with them, and lots of cows...

My dance floor tunes are Club Tropicana by Wham or I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston.

My proudest moment ever was watching my son perform as an actor. His Val Jean had everyone balling in the theatre. Proud dad moment.

Business Development Manager Yorkshire and East Midlands

I am a Business Development Manager in Yorkshire and the East Midlands. I have been with Heineken for 17 years.

I once hosted “Posh Spice” at a football match.

If I was left on a deserted island, I could survive with my bicycle, my wife and dog (sorry but they come as a package) and a musical instrument – I’d finally have time to learn.

The best song ever sang was Shining Light by Mumford & Sons and my proudest moment was raising £15,000 for charity by cycling 300 miles from Glasgow to Gainsborough.

Key Customer Manager North East

I am a Key Customer Manager in the North East and have been with Heineken for 18 years.

I have been training in Thai Boxing for 20 years and am going to Thailand this year to train for 2 weeks. My body is a temple... unless there is Cruzcampo on tap...

If I was stuck on a desert island, I could get by with a gym, a golf course and Cruzcampo on draught. I reckon I could easily fight off any pirates trying to get onto my island...
